Dyeing of the River Walk: March 16-17
Did you know every year since 1968 the River Walk is magically transformed into the River Shannon with eco-friendly green dye?! Yes, it is true! It is happening March 16th and 17th. You can make a day of this free event by going shopping, having lunch, or taking a Riocab. If you can’t make it downtown you can watch live here.
Fest of Tails: March 16
It is the 13th annual Fest of Tails event in McAllister Park on March 16th, 9am to 4 pm. This event welcomes kite and dog enthusiasts from near and far! Dogs of all sizes and breeds, along with a sky full of kites, fill the park with a beautiful scene on this day of free community fun! Bring a blanket and/or lawn chair to watch the spectacular sky views and to enjoy meeting new furry friends. You can even register your pooch to be in the parade.
South Texas Gardening Expo: March 9
Let’s get growing! Enjoy free classes on a variety of gardening subjects including trees, container gardening, succulents, composting, vegetables, rain barrels, and children’s activities on March 9th starting at 9am! It is located at 13153 Iron Horse Way Helotes. Check out more info here.
Art in the Park: March 1
Join us each month for a day full of diverse artistic activities for kids at Hemisfair Park. This is a a free event that starts at 11am-1 pm on March 1st.
Monarch Fest: March 23-24
The San Antonio Zoo is hosting a two-day festival celebrating all things monarchs, milkweed, and migration! Receive free native milkweed and native nectar plant seeds, participate in fun games and crafts, and learn how you can help end the extinction of the monarch butterfly. This event is happening March 23 – 24 starting at 10 am till 5 pm. You can find more info here.
7th Annual Viva San Antonio 5K/10K/Kids Fun Run: March 23
Join me at this family friendly fun run on March 23rd. The course starts at Hemisfair park. It goes down along the San Antonio River and loop around Blue Star to finish back at Hemisfair Park. There is a prize for the most decorated fiesta shoes plus awards for king + queen for best fiesta attire top male, female, child racer best group! Go early for the pre-race activities at 8 am. Doseum Family Fun Night: March 5
The first Tuesday of every month is free family night. Wristbands will be given out at 4 pm at the entrance. Wristbands guarantee entrance for Free family Night. If you haven’t been to the Doseum with your kids, this place is a must. My kids love the little people area and the spy area. There are so many fun things inside and outside the museum to do. You won’t regret coming here.
Slithering Snakes & Other Texas Reptiles: March 9
Wild About Texas will lead a family-friendly show teaching kids about the importance of Texas reptiles, including the alligator lizard, snapping turtle, and more at the Eisenhower Park on March 9th starting at 10 am to 12 pm. For more information, call (210) 207-3782 or email email@example.com.
Síclovía: March 31
Síclovía is a free, bi-annual event, organized by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, that turns city streets into a safe place for exercise and play. The family-friendly event encourages residents and visitors to get out, get active, and explore their city through car-free streets. The Y accomplishes this by activating parks, bringing exposure to local businesses, and inviting community organizations. Participants can enjoy walking, biking, exercise classes, activities for youth, treats for their pets, food trucks, and more. It will be held on March 31st starting at 11 am till 3 pm. Spring Fling Free Family Day: Spring Break
The Museum will offer Free admission from 10am – 9pm with family friendly activities from 12p – 4p to celebrate the beauty of spring. Spring Fling Free Family Day includes activities that are nature-inspired and includes floral crowns, botanical drawings, and paper sculptures.
Sand Week: Spring Break
We love the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Ted Seibert, master sand sculptor, will be at the Garden building an amazing sculpture on-site during the week of Spring Break. Inspired to create your own work of art? Sand pails and shovels will be available for guests to try their hand at sculpting and playing with sand in the Family Adventure Garden. This event is free with your general admission purchase.
Kids are Culture: Spring Break
During Spring Break 2019, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will open the buildings of the Back 40 outdoor learning area. Each day features one of the 1800s Frontier-era buildings, plus the barn and one-room schoolhouse. Children and families will be able to explore the role of children on the Frontier as they participate in chores, games and other activities. Check out their site here, to get more details.
