I love spring in South Texas. The wildflowers are blooming, the weather is getting warmer, and the sun is coming out to play. There are so many fun and exciting things to do around San Antonio this month. So many that I had to limit it to 20. Have fun this month and enjoy the season before it gets too hot.

Doseum Family Fun Night : April 2

The first Tuesday of every month is free family night. Wristbands will be given out at 4 pm at the entrance. Wristbands guarantee entrance for Free family Night. If you haven’t been to the Doseum with your kids, this place is a must. My kids love the little people area and the spy area. There are so many fun things inside and outside the museum to do. You won’t regret coming here.

Poteet Strawberry Festival 2019, 72nd Annual : April 5 – 7

The festival has 14 areas of continuous entertainment featuring concerts with nationally known Country Western and Tejano stars, regional bands, gunslingers, carnival, various contests, and rodeo performances. There is something for the whole family! The price to get in ranges from $5 – $12.50

Wanderlust Half Marathon: April 6

Run by the beautiful scenery of the Hill Country. Fredericksburg lies an hour or so northwest of San Antonio, and an hour or so west of Austin. They’ll have a 13.1 half marathon, 10k and 5k. We’ll start at the Marktplatz (Market Square) in the heart of Fredericksburg.

7th Annual San Antonio Book Festival: April 6

The San Antonio Book Festival returns to downtown San Antonio on April 6 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.! The annual, family-friendly festival brings a full day of author presentations, panel discussions, book sales, signings, children’s and teen activities, and food trucks to the Central Library & Southwest School of Art. Rivercity Half, 10k, and 5K: April 7

The River City Challenge is back! They are hosting TWO River City Half Marathon, 5k & 10k events in 2019. Run in one event, or do both for an extra CHALLENGE FINISHER MEDAL! Join us! Sunday, April 7th at Leon Creek Greenway and Sunday, September 1st along the Salado Creek Greenway.

Legoland Discovery Center Grand Opening: April 12

Celebrate with us on April 12th for our official Grand Opening Ceremony! The ceremony will take place at 10am at the attraction entrance inside the Shops at Rivercenter. While the ceremony is free and open to the public, tickets will be required to enter the attraction following the conclusion of the ceremony! Be sure to book online to ensure a ticket.

Fiesta Oyster Bake: April 12 – 13

Party with a purpose, come out to the St. Mary’s University campus and celebrate the 103rd Anniversary of Oyster Bake. All proceeds benefit University & Alumni Programs, i.e. scholarships for current and future students. Starts at 5 pm

36th Annual Bluebonnet Festival: April 12-14

Always taking place the second weekend in April, the Bluebonnet Festival draws 30,000 people annually to Burnet, Texas. Each year, activities are added to keep the festival exciting for first-time visitors as well as repeat festival fans. Once you have attended your first Bluebonnet Festival, you’ll be hooked.

Easter Eggstravaganza!: April 13

We invite you to join us on Saturday, April 13th for our annual Easter Eggstravaganza at Traders Village! This is a FREE egg hunt – $4 parking into Traders Village! 4 Hunts | Thousands of Easter Eggs | Lots of Door Prizes | Pictures with The Easter Bunny and Superheroes! Schedule: Ages 0-3 | 10:30am, Ages 4-6 | 11:00am, Ages 7-9 | 11:30am, Ages 10-12 | 12:00pm

4th Annual Barkitecture SA: April 13, 10a-4p

This is a city wide Dog House competition for students at all levels from Jr. High, High School and Colleges throughout San Antonio. Students are building amazing DOG HOUSES for the title of “Best in Show”. Each dog house entry is submitted for judging on event day for judging then sold in a SILENT AUCTION throughout the day to the public. Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to local Pet Rescue & Adoption Nonprofits. Family friendly, and bring your Dogs too!!!

Movie in the Park at Tower of Americas: April 13

Grab a blanket and enjoy a family-friendly motion picture The Incredibles 2 under the stars every month. Cost: Free Times: Movies start at sunset* Check their Facebook page for any weather cancellations or delays.

Wings Over South Texas Air Show 2019: April 13-14

Wings Over South Texas Air Show will be held aboard NAS Corpus Christi at 11am. It is a little bit of a drive, but it is free and open to the public. Free parking. Free admission.

4th Annual Helicopter Egg Drop: April 14

The Holy One Church puts on this Easter Egg hunt for kids 12 and under at 3 pm. Kids get to hunt for eggs that were dropped by helicopter. This event is Free. There will also be vendors and food for purchase.

Fiesta: April 18-28

Fiesta® San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That historic commemoration still takes place, but for more than a century, Fiesta® has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures. There are some great family friendly events as well as adult only events. Toe be honest, I haven’t been to Fiesta. The website linked above will give you all the ins and outs you need for Fiesta.

Fiesta® Fiesta 2019 at Hemisfair: April 18, 3p-9p

Join us for the official opening of Fiesta 2019! Enjoy live entertainment, greet Official Fiesta Royalty and special guests. Buy, sell or trade Fiesta pins and medals at Pin Pandemonium. Join the fun as cascarónes are broken and the crowd proclaims “Viva Fiesta!” to kick off the Alamo City’s biggest, best festival. This is a Free event.

2nd Annual Alamo City SC Easter Egg Hunt: April 20, 9-11a

This Easter Egg Hunt is open to the Alamo Family and the Public! It will be held at the Alamo City Soccer Fields off of 1560. There will also be face painting and a petting zoo.

CHAPARRAL MUSIC FESTIVAL: April 20 , 5-11p

Chaparral is back! This free, outdoor event is family-friendly, offering activities for adults and kids alike, with FREE Lawn Games, a FREE Mechanical Bull Ride, lots of yummy local food, fresh sips, local artisans and western-wear merch, and of course – cold beer! You will need a ticket for the concert.

Easter Eggstravaganza! at the Tower of Americas: April 21

Hop on over to the base of the Tower for our eggstravaganza! We’ve got lots of exciting activities for you and your family. Meet the Easter Bunny, Egg hunt @ 12pm, 2pm & 4pm Face painting, Egg dyeing, Moon bounce, Coloring, Food and more! Free and open to the public.

DOGGY DIP – LANDA PARK: April 21, 12-4p

Today the pool belongs to the pups. If you have a pooch that loves to swim, join us for our Doggie Dip Day at the Springfed Pool! All dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccinations provided on the day of the event and be decked out in a collar they can swim in. Limit two human guests per dog. Owners are required to clean up after their pets. Age: All | Fee:1 dog and 2 human guests $8, additional guest $2 per person

128th Battle of Flowers Parade: April 26

8:55am Vanguard, 9:30am Parade Begins What began as a patriotic celebration to honor the heroes of the Alamo, Goliad and the Battle of San Jacinto has since evolved into one of the oldest and largest parades in the country. Today, The Battle of the Flowers® Association – the only all-women, all-volunteer organization producing events of its kind – continues to present the Battle of Flowers® Parade as an integral part of the citywide celebration. Tickets are available to purchase.

Fiesta: A Day In Old Mexico: April 28

Come join us for FIESTA celebration and exhibition of culture! Charreada is the national sport of Mexico. It is the grandfather to the American rodeo. The participants, Charros, compete in skill-based events that marry their skills with a rope and their teamwork on horseback. In addition, our Escaramuza team will dazzle you with their performances– women riders on side saddles with elegant dresses, performing synchronized routines at breakneck speeds! Admission: $20/person Children Under 12: $10/person
