7 Social Media Mistakes to Avoid and How to Fix It
Social media is a must for bloggers, influencers, content creators, or really anyone who wants to have a strong marketing strategy. You need to get your content out there for people to see and hopefully follow you. With any social media marketing, it can be a battle to get your posts out as quickly as possible.
Although you maybe in a rush, it is important to make sure you don’t have any embarrassing mistakes that could damage your brand or lose followers. If you want to make money from your content creator business, you will want to attract those brands to work with you. It is SO important to have great content. Here’s our list of 7 mistakes to avoid when posting to social media
#1 Scheduling Posts at the Wrong Time
This is a pretty easy social media tip that may be looked over. It’s easy to accidentally schedule a post for AM rather than PM, or vice versa, and waste a good social media posts because your audience aren’t online to see it. To avoid this, check that you’ve scheduled your posts for the right time of day.
Do you know when your followers are online? Check out your analytics to see when majority of your followers are ready to engage. This is prime time to post your content.
#2 Leaving off a Call to Action Caption
Your captions are just as important as your photos. It is important to create content someone will interact and engage with, but you also need to tell them what you want them to do. Not only does a call to action build a conversion, but it also builds engagement which will keep your post in the feed.
A few ideas of this are:
Link in Bio
Tag a friend that needs to see this!
Save this post so you don’t forget!
Tag a friend you’d take ___
Tell me ___
DM me for ___
#3 Leaving Off Your Elevator Pitch in Your Bio
If you are looking to work with brands it is important to have what you’re all about in the Bio. With Instagram, the very first way to gain a follower is to see who you are on your Bio.
It can show your expertise, how you are different, your personality, among other things. When creating your bio, use your Elevator Pitch to help highlight your brand.
#4 Incorrect Information
If you’ve used a statistic or a fact in your social media post, just do a quick Google search before posting so you can be confident that the information is right before you share it with the world.
This is another social media hack that might seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised. Sometimes we forget to double check our sources. There will always be a smartypants waiting to comment on your post to point out any mistakes so it’s always best to do your best not to make any!
#5 Not Being Consistent
The key to being successful in any business is being consistent. On social media I post 1x day Monday through Saturday. You may see one day of the week your audience isn’t on as much – then you could probably skip that one day. But in general most industries will find posting 1x a day to be a great pace.
You want to find a time you can post consistently and engage with a few other accounts right after to boost your own engagement.
#6 Not Analyzing Your Social Media Performance
To continue to gain followers and keep the ones you have, create content they want to see. Look at your past social media posts and see what performed well and what didn’t. You can do this by looking at your analytics. Reuse the content that performed well. If it didn’t perform well, analyze why it didn’t. Maybe if you post it at a different time, or use a different photo it might do better. Try it again and see what happens.
To gain even more insight, ask your followers. You can create polls, questions, in your feed or in your stories.
