Family Travel to the Dominican Republic

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would travel overseas at this point in our lives. My hubby and I have always wanted to take the kids and see the world. We just never had enough extra money or time to do so. You know how it is. There are always bills, students loans, more bills to pay, never enough time off, etc. One day we were looking through Groupon and saw their travel deals. We thought this could work with our budget and why not just do it. We started researching how much it would actually cost for our family to go on an international trip. Finally after finding what we thought was a deal, we did it!! We booked our first international trip to the Dominican Republic.

All Inclusive Resort

We stayed at an all inclusive resort called Bahia Principe. Let me just say, our first impression was “Wow!” The accommodations were beautiful; the facilities were clean; the staff was considerate and helpful; overall a great experience. All meals and drinks at the buffet were included. We also were allowed to go to a few of their restaurants, but those were by reservation only. This resort had plenty of things to do. There were 3 gigantic pools, 1 kids pool, mini golf, an obstacle course, nightly shows, and so much more. We would definitely stay at one of their resorts again as we had a relaxing time at this splendid resort.

Another thing I loved about going to this all inclusive resort is that they have excursion packages that are also listed on their website. We did our own research beforehand, but we found a lot of the packages available through the resort were competitively priced. We ended up doing 1 excursion a day. We toured the sugar cane plantations, drove jeeps through the Dominican, went horse back riding, went to local, non-resort beaches, took a catamaran to on a beautiful island, snorkeled and found star fish, and more. It was an amazing trip!

Is This the Right Trip For Your Family?

If you are thinking of taking a big trip, do it! Don’t wait any longer. I’m so grateful we decided to go. Our family loved making memories together. Now that we’ve been on an international trip, I feel like I can do another one. It just takes practice, right?!
