Christmas at Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio Texas
I’m all about simplifying our Christmas traditions, but there is just something about going to Christmas festivities that makes this Mama happy. San Antonio has plenty of great places, but Natural Bridge Caverns takes Christmas to a whole new level. This is a hidden gem your whole family will love with an experience you won’t want to miss this Christmas season.
Christmas at the Caverns is happening throughout the month of December. You can enjoy these festivities on Dec 7, 8, 13, 14, 21, 22, and 23. The park hours depend on which weekends you go. Be sure to check out Natural Bridge Caverns before you go so you can figure out what activities you want to do first. You can also purchase your tickets online before heading there.
What I love about Christmas at the Caverns is there is something for everyone at any age. Below are some of our favorite things that we did.
1. Ice Skating
Don’t be fooled by this ice skating. It is actually a very slippery plastic, but that doesn’t make it less fun. Ice skates are provided for kids and adults. Enjoy some time skating around the quaint ice skating rink.
My hubby thinks he is the bomb when it comes to skating. So, it was funny to see him skating around the rink trying to show off.
2. Amazen’ Reindeer Roundup
This was one of our favorite activities on the night. The goal of this game is to find Santa’s 8 reindeer and Rudolph in this 5000 square ft maze and be the fastest doing it. There are areas you can look over the maze to help you find your way or spy and watch you kids run around trying to find all the reindeer.
The first time through we went together. The second time through it was a race to see who could finish first. I’m happy to say, I won.
3. Twisted Trails – NEW
This is a new attraction for Natural Bridge Caverns. Get strapped in and complete a 6 story twisted trails of zip rails and ropes. Take which ever way your heart desires, but make sure you climb to the top to enjoy the amazing views. The best part are the 4 curvy rails that help you make your way to the bottom.
My son and I loved completing the obstacles and taking the curvy rails back down towards the bottom. I must admit the 4th story had me rethinking my actions, but it was worth it to overcome my fears and take this journey with my son.
4. Caroling in the Caverns
I love the Christmas theme of discovering the caverns. In every cavern you will be greeted with a new musical experience to listen to while you discover the stalagmites and stalagtites. These groups come from all over Texas to spread the Christmas cheer.
5. Smores & Campfire
Who doesn’t like a good smore?! While you are around the campfire making smores, you can watch the colorful display of Christmas lights all around you. The smore kits, hot chocolate, and more are for sale in Big Daddy’s.
6. Cowboy Christmas Hayride
We truly enjoyed this Cowboy Hayride. This 10 minute ride took us through a magical Christmas light display while Christmas music set the mood. The trailer had plenty of blankets to keep us warm during the cool ride.
We went on the hayride a couple times. I personally love looking at Christmas lights and enjoying the night watching my kids eyes light up as they see new displays.
Grabbing a Snack
If you’re kids are like mine, they are bound to get hungry. Skip bringing a snack this time. Big Daddy’s Eats Sweets and Brew will take care of you. They have a wide variety of snacks, ice cream, beverages, and food. Don’t forget to get your free Fudge sample.
If you’re wanting a souvenir at the Caverns there are a few things in Big Daddy’s, but you can also find souvenirs in the main building and also in the Discovery Trading Post.
I can’t stress this enough. I have been to plenty of other park venues only to find the restrooms are gross and the park rundown. Natural Bridge Caverns has clean facilities and plenty of them. The park is clean and well taken care of.
The staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. Most of the staff were helpful when getting on the ride and were very pleasant. I’m sure everyone has a bad day, but the day we went everyone was great.
Get There Early
Be sure to get there in plenty of time to check in and look around before your cavern tour. We found that we needed that extra time to get through the lines.
