As women we can get so busy being Mom, wife, and friend that we forget that we need to love ourselves and make sure we are taking care of #1. Let’s just get that guilt and lie out of the way. You aren’t selfish for taking time for yourself and you DO have time. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, lets looks at some things you can do to treat yourself.

Positive & Daily Affirmations

Get some paper and write out your name.  Then with your letters in your name write nice things about yourself.  This may seem childish but it’s the simple things in life that makes us happy.  So try it and put it somewhere where you can look at it everyday and remind yourself how awesome you are.

It can be so easy to beat ourselves up about every little thing, but no one is perfect. Remember to be kind and supportive to yourself. Half the battle is having a positive attitude. Changing your attitude about yourself will make your day go by easier.

Shower Meditation

Most of us already take a morning shower. Add meditation into something you are already doing. This idea is on Pinterest, but I can’t reference the site. When you click on it, it takes you to either a yoga school or a site selling meditation chairs. But it works as follows –

Imagine that as you wash your hair and your body, you’re washing away the stress and negativity you’re currently feeling. Enjoy the feeling of the water on your skin. Really massage your scalp, the way hairdressers do. Look at the water swirling down the plughole and see all your problems disappearing with it

Do An Exercise You Love

I love running and lifting weights. I do these most days of the week. Do what you love to move your body. Not much of an exerciser? Time to be adventurous. Try something you think you might like, and things you’re not sure about. You’ll never know until you try.


A few months ago, I unplugged from social media for 2 weeks. It was AMAZING! I never noticed how often I looked at my phone, scrolled through Instagram, or pinned new pins on Pinterest. I’m not saying to unplug for that long. Instead of my 2 weeks, unplug for the afternoon. Forget what is going on in the social media realm and enjoy spending time in real life.

Listen to Podcasts

Listening to Podcasts has changed my life. Be inspired and lifted by other people’s stories and successes. One of my fears is being stagnic. Podcast have helped me refocus and re-prioritize what I want in life. There is so much variety on what to listen to. I personally like to listen to Rachel Hollis and Live Free Creative.

Take a bubble bath

I don’t know about you, but I love taking a bath to relax. You can even add some candles, soft music, or a book to read. I love these bath bombs. They are made in California, USA freshly with premium USA natural ingredients – fizzes with colors, will not stain your tub!

Have a Spa Day

Recently I took time with my mini bestie and had an at home spa day. It was so fun to talk, read books, do our nails, and just be with each other. Pamper yourself and save a little extra cash by doing it at home. Try out a new mask, paint your nails, deep condition your hair, try some new makeup techniques. Do whatever makes you feel good.

Take Time to Transition

Too many times we are rushed from one thing to another. This can make us feel even more wound up and chaotic. Decide that you will do one thing for 15-20 minutes when you get home before you launch into your “second job.” This could be something like walking the dog, reading a magazine, sitting in the car before going in, or be creative.

Take a Walk

Do you have some nature trails near by? Explore these new trails with your bestie. Walk and observe your surroundings. This can help boost your mood, and give you a feeling of accomplishment.

Cook Your Favorite Meal

How many times do we cook what our kids will eat? This time cook your favorite meal. A nourishing, healthy meal is just what your body needed. You owe it to yourself to give your body a yummy, healthy meal.

Curl Up with a Book

I love grabbing a blanket, and curling up with my favorite book. It helps me relax and escape reality for awhile. If you’re not much of a reader, you can always listen to an audio book. I have a group of go-to easy reads. Pride and Prejudice and the Hunger Games are just a few that I go to.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

When we see others accomplish or do things that we want to do, but just can’t at the moment for whatever reason, it can really bring us down. It creates envy and feelings of inadequacy. Stop this! People are doing these things because their journey in life brought them there. Maybe you’re just not there yet. But if you’re working toward a goal, and take action EVERY DAY, guess what? You will get there.

When we feel like we’re on a never-ending treadmill of to-do lists mixed with taking care of other people’s needs, it’s no wonder that we start to get sharp and short with those we love so much. Incorporating self-care into our busy days can really help ground ourselves better, by giving us small boosts and breaks that fuel our souls.

You can do this. Just build on those things you are already doing and cherish those small pockets of dead time, such as your commute, that you can put to use in another way – a way that makes time for you.
