As I mentioned before, one of my goals this year is to be active at least 3 times a week. Being active can be as easy as taking the dogs for walks, going for a bike ride, or exploring a new trail. There are also plenty of different exercise groups, programs, etc you can use to get your heart rate up. Although running is my go to, my favs are Camp Gladiator, Fitness Blender, and yoga.

From both my fitness journey as well as observing others through theirs I have come up with 6 MUST DO’s when looking to seriously find success in being happy and healthy with your body.

1. Wake up with Positivity

Begin each day with positivity! It can be as simple as a reminder on your phone, a motivation quote or picture. Keep this goal in your mind. Your attitude is have the battle of keeping your motivation up. So why not begin each morning knowing you are going to be one step closer to your goal. This mindset will help you make positive food choices and get your butt in the gym. Once you force yourself of these habits each morning it becomes routine! This little attitude changes lead to little lifestyle changes which lead to BIG results in the long term.

2. Stop Comparing!

Fitness is not a one size fits all type of thing. So many of us get stuck in comparing our fitness journey with others. It is easy to get frustrated when you aren’t seeing the same results as others. You need to remember that all of our bodies are different and unique. The diet your friend is doing might not be as great for you as it is for her. It is important to figure out what works for you. Honestly you will never find happiness if you are constantly comparing yourself to others. Be true to yourself, and tell yourself that your goals is to look like and feel your best.

3. Work Out with Some Tunes

Working out is easier when you have music to listen to and motivate you. Put together a playlist of your favorite songs. Get ready to catch yourself humming through your workout.

Don’t be surprised if you end up keeping a steadier pace while listening. Music with a strong beat has been found to help people’s movements stay consistent during exercise. What are some of your favorite songs with a good beat?

4. Switch It Up

Don’t get complacent with doing only one type of exercise. There is such a thing as getting in a rut or over training. When I train for races, I switch up my workout routines to challenge my body in different ways and to strengthen other muscles. If you don’t switch things up your muscles adapt to your training. It will cause frustrating plateaus, but by constantly changing up your routines, your muscles won’t have time to adapt to your training. 5. Don’t do it Alone

Achieving fitness success on it’s own is hard enough… doing it alone? There are so many women just like you on a fitness journey. Find a workout buddy or buddies. Working out with others keeps you accountable when you’re really not feeling it. You can even join an online community or group to encourage you. If you need someone, I am always here for you. I will be happy to be your biggest cheerleader.

6. Stop Waiting for Tomorrow

Everyone has to start somewhere. I will be the first one to admit that I have waited until Monday of the next week to start a new routine or diet change. It is easy to put off for tomorrow what we should be doing today. It is hard to let go of old habits, but it does not get any easier with waiting. It is time to stop making excuses and go for it. You don’t have to make the big change all at once. Start out small and focus on one day at a time. Rather than going home to sit and watch TV tonight.. head to the gym, go for a walk, or put on a workout video. There is no reason not to start making choices right now. This month’s choices are next months body.
