Snippykit Boutique started with an idea. An idea from my mother of all places. She told me she had a great idea for a business and thought I would really enjoy it. To start a successful business, of course, peaked my interest, but I was uncertain. There was so much information out there about how to get started.

After much coaxing and encouragement, I decided it was worth a try. Once I had made up my mind to start this boutique, I knew I needed a local friend with much more fashion sense than I had. Don’t get me wrong, I know how to pair cute items together, but fashion forecasting wasn’t really my thing … yet. A good friend of mine decided to join with me and we started this journey together.

Starting a business can be intimidating, but you can do it! Here are some tips to start a successful business and brand that I wish I knew when I got started.

Create a Plan

Why is having a plan so important? A plan will help you succeed. This is where you figure out what your long-term and short-term goals are for your business. Where do you want your company to end up? Of course your goals can change, but having a long-term goal is helpful in keeping the true motivation intact.

What is Your Why?

Speaking of motivators, the most important part of this plan is the “why”? What is your reason to start your own business? Are you driven by money? Or is it helping people that really motivates you? Running a business can be hard work. There will come a time when you will really have to dig deep and remember why you are in business.

Celebrate Your Goals

Make some short term goals with fast results. Your social media account just hit 200 followers? Yay! Celebrate the small goals and accomplishments. This can help keep you in a positive mindset.

For me, the short term goals help the long-term goals seem not as daunting – especially when I have kids at home. It was difficult to get a lot done with children running around the house. The short term goals helped keep me sane and feeling accomplished.

Be Realistic

Be realistic and honest with yourself. If you don’t have 4 hours a day to devote to your business than don’t schedule yourself to do so. It isn’t fair to yourself or to your family. It will just be added stress that you don’t need. Honestly, you’ll want to have your family on board when you start a successful business and brand. Daily Affirmations

Every day give yourself a pep talk, mediate, do daily affirmations, scripture sturdy, or whatever it is you do to get ready for the day. Remember, you don’t have to be the biggest, fastest, or smartest to start a successful business and brand. Majority of successful people aren’t those things. They just know how to work, are dedicated to be successful, and do it.

Your challenge for the week: Figure out your motivators, make short term goals, and think about how much time you have. Really think about these 3 items, and write it down where you will see it often.
