“Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” Hans Christian Andersen
The Botanical Gardens is a must-see attraction here in San Antonio. Beautiful, serene, aromatic, interesting, varied, interactive, educational, and even adventurous. You might not think it is kid-friendly, but it is one of our favorite places to go. They have recently done some renovations. So if it has been awhile since your last visit, it’s time to go again. The gardens have a great lay-out. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. You are going to do a lot of walking.
The gardens offer information and learning experiences about the landscape and geography native to San Antonio. It also has plants found all over the world. We saw many adults strolling around taking in the beauty. There is a great children’s section with playhouses, picnic area, and water play area. Due to the butterfly migration, there were many to see as they landed on the flowers.
The varieties of plants and green houses makes it a great place to visit year around. Time of year is important, but like any outdoor place in San Antonio it can be hot. If you go during the summer be sure to get there first thing to beat the heat. Our favorite times to go are in the Spring and Fall.
Right now they have their Lego exhibit going on. According to their website, “Created with nearly half a million LEGO® bricks, the thirteen nature-inspired displays at the San Antonio Botanical Garden include a larger-than-life Monarch butterfly and a 6-foot hummingbird on a trumpet flower! ” My kids loved the displays. They marked each display off the map provided. You better hurry though. This display is only up until December 31st.
